The process that occurs when clients and counsellors set convenient time to explore client’s difficulties that may include stressful or emotional feelings can be termed as counselling. This act of helping the client to see things more clearly, possibly from a different viewpoint, is important to the counselling process. Counselling psychologists or therapists aim to help clients across groups, workplaces, organizations, institutions, and communities. Regardless of the target population, the goal of Therapy remains the same, i.e., to overcome and adapt to the various mental health issues and challenges faced by individuals across their lifespan.

Educational counsellors help students make informed choices concerning their choice of study, vocation, and career path. In particular, school counsellors create, practice, and assess school counselling programs that give all children access to academic, career, college, and personal/social abilities. There are numerous benefits of availing educational counselling for all students, including disabled or special needs children. These include- understanding key strengths, developing a career plan according to their skillsets, visualizing long-term goals, gaining insight on personality and aptitude, avoiding any shortcomings, etc. In order to unlock the optimal potential of the student or to resolve any underlying problems impacting their studies, an educational counsellor will interact with the student's parents, guardians, or teachers.

Rehabilitation counselling is a special area focused primarily on disability advocacy and vocational rehabilitation counselling for individuals with disabilities. It is a branch of counselling where professionals work to help people with emotional and physical disabilities to live more independently. This may include arranging for medical care, assisting in job placement, helping the client develop skills for a particular job, etc. This method of counselling can be administered both in a group and individually. The common primary goal is to aid the client in coping with mental, physical, emotional, or social issues they face to improve their quality of life. Broadly, rehabilitation counselling follows four stages recovery, healing, strength, and function. Following an effective treatment plan can differ from individual to individual, but it is necessary for optimal results
Workplace counselling refers to the ability to deal with issues that occur within an organization, such as conflict, stress-related absence, work-related trauma as well as harassment/bullying. It gives employees a platform to speak with someone trained to listen attentively to their issues and suggest solutions that can help them improve their condition and become productive people in a safe, private setting about anything that may be perplexing or hurtful, or uncomfortable. This is a beneficial practice for both individual employees and the organization as it plays a role in improving personal growth, which in turn decreases turnover & increases the productivity of the company as a whole
All these types of counselling are carried out by a counsellor or a psychologist specialized in a certain area. These applications of counselling, no matter their setting, remain constant in terms of confidentiality, trust, and empathy to be successful.
