Indian Independence movement had seen growth between the years 1916 and 1918. This made the Home Rule movement popular and the main head of this movement was Annie Besant and Bal Gangadhar Tilak.
The primary objectives of this movement were to achieve supreme status against the British kingdom among developed countries like Australia. This movement was segmented into a couple of Home Rule Leagues. Tilak formed one of the leagues in the year April 1916 and Annie Besant formed the other one in September 1916.
Annie Besant
The Home Rule Movement was first established and initiated to achieve Self Government in India. This movement achieved the supremacy position. The All India Home Rule League was similar to that of the movement Irish based on political factors. This league had certain limitations on the part of Maharashtra and Central Province and this was formed on April 1916. This league is composed of six fields. The main wants of this league were Swaraj and the establishment of inappropriate languages.
The success of this movement depended on the factors of extremists and moderates and this came into the knowledge of both leaders. The leaders in the newspapers and meetings and conferences did the campaigning of this movement. Later the leaders were get admitted to the Congress party and made successful in this movement. Later due to political issues, Annie Besant started her league and from there the leaders to avoid any type of conflicts established the personal leagues.
The rules and regulations of the Government Act 1909 were not good enough for the people of India. Later in the year 1907, the congress party get divided and the extremist leader Bal Gangadhar Tilak was imprisoned from 1908 to 1914. During that time the national movement gets to its full swing. The leader Annie Besant braced the Irish Home Rule League when she approaches India in 1893.
Due to political factors, the leaders of India get split up and they were in a dilemma that whether to support Britain in the War. Both the leaders understood the importance of the Nationalist movement and the function of the Indian Congress party in the political part of India. The leaders failed to satisfy the party to get in the favour of the formation of the Home Rule League and later they established their league.
Under this movement, the two leagues were established one in the year April 1916 at Belgaum and the other one was formed at Madras. The formation of a government body was the sole objective of both leaders. Both the leagues of the leaders had different approaches and for this reason, the leagues were followed and worked in different countries.
The league of Tilak had its headquarters in Delhi and whereas the league of the Besant had many parts but it does not gain much success compared to Tilak’s league. Both the leagues had functioned together but they avoid amalgamation due to the rise of conflict among the leaders.
